The humble customs declaration is coming to the fore once again as frictionless borders disappear in Europe from next January. Paul Carroll of BluJay Solutions tells Paul Hamblin of Logistics Business Magazine how affected businesses can ease the pain of the transition.

“Simplified procedures have been around for years,” he confides. “For example, firms dealing with deep-sea movements from the Far East and US have been self-filing away from the border for years. It is made possible under the Customs Freight Simplified Procedures scheme. It’s essentially an extension of the Trusted Trader (AEO) scheme, it allows your business to make an electronic customs declarations inland. This simplification is usually adopted in tandem with storing your goods inland, at a bonded warehouse.”
