Air Freight Rates on the Rise

With capacity down and the recent rise in volumes, the Airlines are using the opportunity to raise rates by an estimated 30%. Some airlines have already had 10-15% increases in early September. There has been talk that if the rates are not increased and the Airlines ability to turn a profit isn't satisfied, that most of the freighter capacity will be withdrawn. I believe that there will be even more increases as the year ends. It's an unforntunate situation with most Importers trying to save money in the tough times, but without the increases, there will be little to no capacity to move the Air Freight. It will become a very expensive and exclusive service to the few who are willing to pay the big money for it.
